STEAM LOCOMOTIVES OF THE PELOPONNESE RAILWAYS
A steam locomotive is something that inspires
everybody whatever the age, and creates fantastical journeys in their minds.
Many people have connected them with poetry and art. This is something very
logical if we imagine that steam locomotives are very delicate and graceful
machines. Besides its artistic aspect, it is an important contributor of the
industrial revolution of the human kind. This is also one of the intentions
of these pages, to present us a part of our recent industrial history of our
homeland Peloponnisos and in more confined space, in the prefecture of Messinia.
We all want to know the "Iron Horses" that once roamed through our
home towns and got connected with our everyday lives.
For all of the above and because there are no information on the world wide
web about the steam locomotives of the Peloponnese Railways, we have created
this small corner to present to you all these as complete as possible. In
many of the classes below you will find that data or even pictures are missing.
This is attributed to the fact that no detailed records were kept by the company
(SPAP) or whatever was recorded, much was destroyed by the present Hellenic
State Railways as recycling paper (!!!!!!). With whatever data we have in
our hands we present to you the following.

I wish to thank my dear friend and member of the Association of the Friends of the Railway in Athens, Ioannis Zartaloudes, for his valuable knowledge on the mysterious and complicated history of the steam locomotives on the Peloponnese Railways.
